Matthias Höfs

... studied under Prof. Peter Kallensee at the Hamburg College of Music and Theatre where he passed his concert examinations with distinction. He then changed to the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and studied under Konradin Groth.

It did not take long until he raised international attention: He won first prizes in 1987 at the Competition of Music Colleges and in 1990 at the International Music Competition in Markneukirchen. In 1983, he was awarded the Hanse-Kulturpreis of the City of Lübeck, in1998, he won the Eduard-Söhring-Preis, and in 1989, he was granted a scholarship by the German Music Council and the Mozart Society.

Matthias Höfs joined the exceptional ensemble German Brass in 1985.
Before he was appointed as Professor at the Hamburg College of Music and Theatre in 2000,Matthias Höfs was principal trumpet at the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, where he still remains a welcome guest.And he continues to be invited by distinguished German symphony orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonics, the Munich Philharmonics etc.

In 2000, he was appointed as professor for trumpet and chamber music at the Hamburg College of Music. As a guest lecturer he is appreciated all over the world - a fact confirmed by invitations to the Tschaikowsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Summer Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Royal Music Conservatory in Copenhagen as well as journeys to Mexico or Japan, just to name a few.

His first solo CD "Un Concerto Italiano" for trumpet and organ appeared in 1995. The recording "An English Concert" followed in 2002. In spring 2006, the joint solo CD by Matthias Höfs and Hans Gansch "Gansch Meets Höfs" was released.

As a renowned soloist, he gives concerts all over the world and his journeys have already taken him to almost every continent - next to Japan he strongly focuses his musical activities on the USA.
While being at home in the common classical and baroque repertoire of the trumpet literature Matthias Höfs also dedicates himself to the contemporary literature.Renowned composers such as Eino Tamberg, Peter Lawrence, Christian Mühlbach, Dieter Einfeldt, have already written pieces especially for Matthias Höfs and he also premiered them.
